ABOUT ME
Hello fellow travelers!
Oh, well… What can I tell you about myself?
My name is Víctor and – despite the fact that some people might say that I don’t look like the average local – I was born and raised in Barcelona. A proper Catalan!
From a very young age, my favorite pastime has been walking and getting lost in the streets. Whether it was with friends, a date or alone I couldn’t think of a better plan than to go out and mingle among the characters you meet in the alleys of the old town.
Eventually, I turned 18, and I was persuaded by a friend to move abroad.
I was to spend the following four years living and traveling through Europe.
Life abroad is an adventure. The novelty of everything around you is stimulating. You become more alive.
But the more I traveled, the more I missed Barcelona and its people.
That’s what you get when you grow up here… no matter where you go you get easily homesick.
Yes, I missed my family. But I specialy missed going to the Bar to get my morning coffee and seeing the regulars. I missed Biel the janitor, bartender Marc and even Marta and her stupid scratch offs. I missed my pals!
Living around Europe helped me to understand the news more when they show maps. And it also made me get to know Europeans more. If
you are not familiar with them, they are pretty much the way you imagined. The English are funny, the Scandinavians are polite, the Dutch are just perfect in every way, the French really love themselves, Eastern Europeans are nicer than you think, Italians are romantic people, etc.
So here I was, at the age of 22 back in Barcelona. And now what?
I wanted to do something that I liked, because from my experience, I am only good when I do something I like. My grandma once gave me a very important piece of advice “Always do whatever makes you happy”. Or maybe Eminem taught me that, I don’t really remember. Anyways, Slim or grandma I took your collective advice.
So I merged my lifelong affinity to Barcelona with my travel knowledge and I decided to start showing the city to people.
I started ironically because I wasn’t sure if people would enjoy or learn with me.
At the beginning I was only giving free tours so people could give me the money they felt like… and soon after I started, it exploded. I was getting bigger and bigger. The feedback was pretty good.
Really, I know it’s not for me to say but people were enjoying my tours.
Soon afterward, I started to make more exclusive tours. Private tours. And here I am.
Sometimes people ask me what my main mission is or why I do this. And the premise is quite simple – to usher in the return of authenthicity.
Allow me to explain, in an incresingly globalized world, where everything is slowly looking and feeling the same, I want to give you something unique. Something that will make you feel closer to the city, like you are part of it. In short, what I want to offer you here is the possibility to discover the city from a local point of view, through the eyes of someone who has spent most of his life walking around the magic streets of Barcelona.
The Barcelona of the people.
I will take you through the most emblematic places around the city of Barcelona while telling you the history and anecdotes behind them.
The city of Barcelona hides many secrets, anecdotes, histories… and I want to share them with you.
So don’t hesitate and contact me for a fun, cultural and insightful walk around the city! See you soon 😉
